Someone on the Hendon Mob forum asked about the mechanics of spinning up, this for those who are unaware is the practice of speculating with very small amounts of money trying to create a much larger amount. Most people are unsuccessful at this practice for one simple reason, they dont know when to quit.

Like I said in my reply, its a little like trying to win a poker tournament with a huge field. It is highly unlikely that you will win the event as the blinds and antes are excalating so rapidly that luck will undoubtedly decide the outcome of the event.

Spinning up is similar in nature in so much as if you do this by constantly elevating the levels that you are playing at then the first normal outdraw will do you in. The trick to spinning up is to know when to quit. Or to know when to revert to using proper bankroll management. Chris Ferguson may have spun nothing into ten grand but he did that in a proper and professional way.

Placing $50 into a NL50 and doubling your money and then placing that $100 into a NL100 game……ditto…….then $200 into a NL200…….ditto…….NL400…….NL600……NL1000…….you will be entering all these games with just the single buy in. The result is an inevitable loss of the initial $50 and you will have paid for the ride.

But buying in for $50 with the goal of quitting when you reach say $200 could be done with a lot greater frequency which would add to your pleasure. Spinning up is a great way to have some fun at very little expense but you can have even more fun if you know when to quit. Sure you might catch lightening in a bottle and turn $40 into $2 million like Moneymaker did in 2003 but that is exactly what it is…….lightening in a bottle.

I dont chase dreams and never have…….I leave that kind of thing to dreamers. I deal in reality and for me that means cash in regular doses and that means one thing and one thing only……cash games.
