Knowing me knowing you
I thought that I would make todays blog one big tutorial as there has not been much poker to write about. I have always thought that a game like NLH makes demands on a persons character that other forms of poker simply don’t.
This was highighted once again this week when one of my students (who has good potential by the way) forwarded me a selection of hand histories. For long periods of time, he was playing good sound solid poker. But this can be said of many players. They play like professionals for long periods and then something just comes over them and they are suddenly all in with something silly.
It is one thing to do something silly in a game when you lack the knowledge or skill but it is something else to do something silly when you know full well that you are doing it before, during and after the event. If you cannot control yourself in a game like NLH then you have a very serious problem and one that could be impossible to overcome depending on the individual.
I can speak from personal experience because it is a problem that I have had to work very hard to overcome in the past. NLH is a brutal game in that aspect and far more unforgiving than limit or STT’s. You can make correct decisions the vast majority of the time in NLH and still be a losing player.
If you are losing in NLH then it may be time to take a good long hard look in the mirror.
see ya soon
