Its all in the texture

I think that its about time that I provided you with an update on my progress in the 100K challenge. Well it has hit the skids a little bit but I have bounced back in great style. My bankroll dipped to around $4400 and I dropped back to 1-2 for a session and won that well.

The total is now $5779!! which is about $300 down on my last report but that does not tell the drama within….sigh.

Been a bad week all round really as I have also had a couple of poor sessions in the 10-20 NL as well with losses around the $3000 mark.

I have been promising myself that I would incoporate some tutorial material in my blog and I will start that now by discussing flop textures. The texture of the flop is absolutely crucial in all forms of poker be it Hold’em, Omaha, O8, Limit, NL etc. The texture of the flop when married with other information allows you to dictate your strategy for things like continuation betting, floating, calling , raising etc.

For instance, flops like 10-7-2 rainbow are some of my favourite flops in NL holdem heads up situations. This is an "either or" type of flop where my opponent either has a big hand, AA,KK,QQ,JJ if they raised pre-flop or 10-10,7-7,2-2 or possibly 10-7 if they are tricky.

Of all the possible combination of hands, that seems unlikely and I will float on flops like this or even raise simply because the mathematics of the situation dictate to me that I have a good chance of taking this pot down.

have a good weekend and see ya soon
