And We are Off
Played my first tournament last night on Cake Poker, I would like to report some good news but unfortunately my 100k tournament lasted about 35minutes. With 5k starting stacks and 110 places being paid then there is a fair chance to get into the money. Total prize money was $110,000 so I was looking forward to getting a stack and going deep.
Well I was unlucky enough to get two big stacks on my right quite early and they started raising all over he place denying me opportunities to pick up some early chips. After about 35 minutes I have 4100 in chips and am behind the curve which is about 5400.
The structures in these tournaments are fast but this just means that you have to be fast with your play but I wasnt given the opportunity to do so. I then see KK under the gun and I decide that I want some action with this hand. My very first hand had seen me dealt QQ and I raised to 3x and got no action. I didnt want to play the kings out of position so I elected to try and win a big pot.
Well I wasnt dissapointed on that score, two limpers and then a min raise and folded to the button who goes 5000 all in…..the blinds are only 50-100. I have seen so much bad play in the opening 35 minutes that if this guy has AA then good luck to him but there is no way that I am laying down pocket kings here.
I call and the rest fold and he shows AQ…..just as I thought……he was trying to pick the pot up and went about it badly. Well of course an ace flops and goodbye little ol me. But I actually really enjoyed it and cannot wait to play some more tournaments.
But I definitely recommend that anyone gets into this tournament because the opportunity to get a stack big enough to cash is there for everyone. Big tournaments mean lots of satellite entries and that means dead money. The average final table stack is around 400k and the average stack to cash was around 40k.
Anyway…..Sunday night is the night for the 100k and it is 250k last Sunday in the month.
