Thin end of the wedge
I would dearly like to say that what has just happened on Pokerstars was well and truly a one off event but anyone who knows either me, my beliefs, background or has read any of the articles on this site will know that not to be the case anyway.
What am I talking about? Namely the big cheating scandel to rock online poker where the recent winner of the WCOOP has had to forfeit their $1.2 million first place prize money. Thier screen name was "The VOid" which is quite apt really because when news like this hits the industry then a VOID is what is likely to happen…..a void of new plavers coming in that is.
This is not news to me. It happens everyday of the week literally thousands of times. It was only a matter of time until it became a high profile event. But I have to commend Pokerstars for their action in openly declaring it although in my view they had no choice.
If they tried to sweep this thing under the carpet then if it ever leaked out then that would look really bad. At least this way they have the opportunity to put some positive spin on it by making a statement of how they deal with online cheats.
Its alright freezing accounts once you catch people but many cheats constantly withdraw cash anyway to combat this. You cannot sieze what is not in the site. It is strange how this coincided with my cheating videos but that was just coincidence. Online poker is corrupt but poker is corrupt anyway….we all knew that.
Wherever you find money then you will find individuals or groups of individuals who are prepared to do whatever it takes to get it.
On a lighter note, just like to say well done to Julian Thew for taking down the recent EPT….could not have gone to a nicer guy.
see you soon
The Dean
