Show me the way
Regular readers of my blog or people who know me in general will tell you or will already know that keeping mental equilibrium has never been high on my list of gifts.
But over the past few weeks or so, I have made remarkable strides in this area thanks to reading about things like Zen, Confucianism and Tao. These eastern philosophies are very deep and profound. So deep that their impact has spanned about 1500 years in the case of Zen and traditonal Buddhism goes even further back than that.
So, am I on the way to becoming a Buddhist monk…..no! I love poker too much for that but over the past few weeks, I have been looking at things in a totally different way to how I have been doing in the past. People who know me have spotted big differences and I feel on the whole a much better person.
I am not by nature a religious person but I can now understand the importance of it in peoples lives for the very first time. Of course, I am certain that Zen or any other eastern philosophy for that matter was never meant to be used to make other people poorer to which poker strives to achieve that very purpose.
But Zen is really all bout understanding oneself and reaching personal enlightenment and I have made tremendous leaps forward recently in that area, way beyond the levels that I was at originally. My poker game has been enriched and improved by teachings that were around 1500 years ago…..now how about that!
see ya soon
