Not enough hours in the day
Sorry about the blogs being a little bit spaced out lately, I have been so busy doing lots of other stuff. I am currently promoting Poker Heaven, writing a lengthy article on Backstreet Poker for the WPT magazine, coaching several players at once and also spending more time doing my second greatest passion….betting exchanges.
I have been working on my trading skills for quite some time now……why……because it is a challenge and I like challenges. I have been spending sometime working on identifying trends between the betfair market and on course bookies with regards price movement.
There is a connection between on course prices and the exchanges and mainly the exchanges are dominant but sometimes the on course market leads the way. Under certain criteria, you can actually predict the movement on Betfair based on what is happening on track. It has taken me a long time to iron this out but I always knew that there was something there but couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
Anyway, I have not played a single hand of poker in anger this month but I have my plan to practice the changes in my limit hold’em games so will be trying these out on their five handed games.
Speaking of limit hold’em, I think that I will make todays tip on this very form of poker.
THE DEANS TIP OF THE DAY
Limit hold’em is an often under estimated form of the game. You cannot lose all your stack in one big blow out like you can at NLH. But a losing player will gradually drip feed other players their bankroll over a period of time, that and the rake.
It is crucial in limit play to be aggressive when you decide to play. Calling and limping pre-flop should be thrown out of the window unless you are playing from the blinds. You are far better off raising than calling with any hand that is playable.
Raising can turn situations that are -EV and make them positive, if it has been raised and you are deciding on the correct course of action….do not call!
Either re-raise or fold, re-raising will put the remaining hands and the blinds under tremendous pressure and when they fold, this creates vital dead money which will make the situation +EV and especially if you can play well post flop.
