Thankfully mine
I got lucky big time last night in my first 25-50 game for a while. Got the nod about 9.30pm and I was logging on a minute later. Only been playing fifteen minutes when the following hand cropped up. I am dealt 7-7 on the button and it is folded to me and I make a standard raise to $175.
Now my target in the big blind is a “player” if you know what I mean. He is creative and aggressive but he is losing money over 2740 hands. This may be variance but I dont think so in his case. Our data on him reveals that he likes to call a lot of raises and then look to make moves post flop creating fold equity through lay downs.
I hadnt played with this guy much, once in fact before he left the table shortly after I joined. I knew that he would look to make moves post flop and I was ready for him. In fact just a few hours earlier we had been discussing this very player.
Small blind gets out of the way and he calls making the pot $375. He had around $2200 left and the flop came 10c-6s-3d so I know that he knows that it is unlikely that I have connected with that. He checks and I make a standard continuation bet of $250. He calls which makes the pot now $875. Turn card is the 10d and he checks again and I make another bet of $550 and he check-raises me all in for his remaining $1950 and I snap call…..he shows Ad-2c so he is drawing to three outs and a king on the river gives me the pot.
Against someone else this may have been a much tougher call but not against him. He leaves the table and I decide to play out my free hands until the blinds reach me and then leave. But I then see K-K in the hijack and open raise to $175, button calls and so does big blind. Flop comes K-10-8 (cant remember suits but there was a flush draw).
Big bind checks and I lead out for $500 and the button folds but the big blind calls. Now I am thinking that they must have a hand to play like that so when a 3 comes on the turn and they check again, I increase the size of my turn bet. There was $1550 in the pot and I bet almost the pot and make it $1450. We both have very deep stacks of 7k+and he calls again. River card pairs the ten which fills me up and he moves all-in on the river to my surprise and I call…..he had pocket eights.
It could have easily been the other way around but I dont win much from these players anyway but last night I got lucky and ended up winning in the region of $10k…..happy times at last.
