I have always been a big believer in that certain people are just not cut-out to play certain types of poker. This is the question that a reader asked me last week.

Some people prefer the prospect of playing for a large amount of money like in a poker tournament for instance. They like to tell their mates that they are playing in a 500k event as if saying this makes them look like “a player”.

Other people prefer the consistancy of being able to earn regular money from cash games. But even in cash games there are differences in how certain forms of poker interact with certain personalities. For example full-ring games definitely appeal to more cautious players and heads up play can be good for aggressive players as can short handed games of course.

Then we have the doube or nothing SNG’s on Cake Poker which are even better than cash games with regards cautious players and being able to make money with little swing. So what I am trying to say here is that you really need to try to home in on what type of poker suits your personality and dont try to force a square peg into a round hole.
