A complete pile of dung

Over the weekend, I had some serious discussions with a very successful SS NLHE player who had a great record between NL50 and NL200. I wanted a run down of my game and I was a bit shocked to discover that there were numerous things wrong with my NL50 system. I had pencilled in the 1st April as the start of my month long intensive trial and then to start proper all being well on the 1st May.

This is still a go but I have been having a very serious education at the mathamatics behind NL50 games and especially the impact of the rake compared to the profitability of certain types of hands…..something that I had never really considered.

This past 48 and the next 36 hours to come, I have been doing some very rapid revising of some lengthy notes that he sent me early on Saturday morning. An underlying problem is that I over estimated the skill sets of these players, dont get me wrong…..they are not the Vegas All Stars but this makes no difference.

The number of short stackers complicates the process but I am seriously glad that I spoke to this guy just in time. It will also mean that April will also be a learning curve as well but a months intensive trial should have me in pretty good shape by the 1st May and especially with another months study behind me.

This is a blessing in disguise as I felt that there wasnt something quite right with the system but couldnt quite put my finger on it. Playing this on Cake also means that I cannot correlate my Poker Office 5 data so I am essentially on my own playing at a new level with completely different dynamics to what I am used to. But this just underlines what I have always said in that a player cannot expect success at lower levels just because he has been winning higher up.

Played a 90 minute session today and won $78 playing 3 tables at NL50 and 2 at NL20. When my rakeback payment kicks in this will put me around $1500-$1600 ahead since Dec 1st which isnt great but keep in mind that I have only just started to get somewhere with this recently.

So I have to hold my hands up and say that The Dean has had to ask for assistance or coaching or call it whatever you like but I asked for it and was glad to recieve it. Yesterday I spent most of the day putting simulations through PokerStove (what a way to spend a Sunday).

My missus almost flipped when she found out that we were not going out because I was preparing to play NL50 especially when I told her it was in dollars and not pounds……what the hell does she know anyway.

See ya soon and take care
