Did you really expect anything else

It kind of amused me prior to this years main event how all of the usual names were being bandied about in the betting rings. Hellmuth, Negreanu, Mizrachi, Hansen, Antonius, Lindgren, Ivey, Ferguson, Hachem, Raymer etc etc etc etc.

As if these guys stood much chance of making it. But yet people still elevate their chances of winning it over almost everyone else. I could elongate that list with another hundred star names and not one of them got to the final table or final few tables for that matter.

When are people going to realise that there are just too many players who can play these days and the variance is so huge that you could theoretically be the best tournament player in the world and still never win the main event in your lifetime.

Many great poker players have won bracelets, many great poker players havent. Many who have won bracelets have then gone on to become good players who werent when they won the tournament. This is why I dont go to the series because I just know that I am going to be coming back with less money than I went with in all probability. Although now that I am sponsored then this changes things somewhat so I have to say that the chances of me playing in the series have increased substantially since the end of last year.

But I woudnt be going there with less than $30k as I would be taking enough to play 4/5 events and play the cash games as well. Then we have the heat factor, flying (I hate flying) and the fact that tournament winnings are taxed as I believe then I really dont know why so many players break their necks to go over there.

Which probably means that I will be there next year…….oh well
