Whats bankroll management?
I have read this week that Phil Ivey, one of the true poker superstars around today was witnessed discussing how broke he was in an online game. I don’t know why so many people find this so shocking. There was a thread on it on the Hendon Mob forum amongst others. People would be staggered if they knew the full story regarding many supposed top players.
There is a world of difference between being a great player and a great money manager. Most great players simply cannot manage money to save their lives which in my mind seriously impedes them from being top players at all in my opinion. Maybe its just me but isn’t poker all about winning and accumulating money and then keeping it and then winning and accumulating some more.
But before anyone starts feeling sorry for Phil, I wouldn’t get too carried away. Losing his roll on FT is a far cry from being skint and people like him can always put their hands on 250k….and he is still a great player.
Speaking of poor money management, just heard about the guy who is taking William Hill to court because he lost around £2 million and they failed in his mind to take adequate measures to prevent this. You have to be having a laugh right. This guy obviously has serious gambling issues and he and he alone was responsible for losing that money. Even if Hills had put the stop on him, do you seriously think that he would have just called it a day…don’t make me laugh.
This guy cannot be allowed to get away with this otherwise it will just open the floodgates for future claims, it should be thrown out of court.
Before I go, just like to let you know that I will be undertaking to write a poker book on cash games specifically for the UK market, don’t know the title yet but it will happen this year.
